Chandigarh: Sumeir
Bhatia, Founder of ‘The Helping Feet Initiative’, sought support from the
exhibitors of 'The Festive Lane Exhibition' held at Hotel Mount View here today
for his unique project aimed at helping children who don't even have slippers
to wear. The 15-year-old City boy,
Sumeir, a former student of Strawberry
Fields High
School, Sector 26, is currently studying in George Washington
University High
School in USA,
spreading awareness at the exhibition about the dire need of providing footwear
to needy children.
Sumeir said," Even though under the PM Cares scheme,
the government provided funds for children orphaned due to Covid-19, still a
lot needs to be done. Not only the government, but citizens should also help
those in need. My 'Helping Feet Initiative' aims at providing the
underprivileged children with proper footwear. A large number of poor children
still walk barefoot to their schools. This impacts them physically and
psychologically."
Meanwhile, at the exhibition, Rashmi Bindra, a fashion,
textile and interior designer and a cancer survivor, who was also exhibition’s
curator said, “It was a rare occasion where youngsters who were shaped up by
odds and challenges caused by COVID-19, showcased their innate talent through
their offerings. We also had some of India's best art forms and creative
arts showcased at The Festive Lane. I am happy that Sumeir also became a part
of the show promoting his unique social initiative.”
The Festive Lane (TFL) exhibition presented unique
collections of start-ups, handmade products and intricate embroidery based
designer wear from all over India.
Over 45 exhibitors took part in the exhibition.
Sumeir's initiative ‘The Helping Feet Initiative’ has been
supported by local businesses like Monica’s Puddings and Pies, Politician HS
Lucky, environment enthusiast Navraj Singh Gill, and Ananya Kapoor, a budding
golfer, among others. Sumeir had previously participated in a city-wide tree
drive and helped plant over 1500 trees. BW
